The Aegis
Pronounced "EE-jiss"
"Law is the shield between civilization and collapse."

The Aegis is Valecar’s closest equivalent to a unified law enforcement institution. They are not soldiers, nor priests, nor mercenaries.
They are civic enforcers.
And they are everywhere.
Most citizens refer to them as the:
-
Aegis
-
Shieldwardens
-
The Gray Cloaks
-
Or, in darker tones — “The Measured Hand” or just "The Hand"
What They Are
The Aegis is a semi-independent inter-regional enforcement order chartered after the Shattering Wars.
Their purpose:
-
Maintain civic order
-
Investigate major crimes
-
Enforce cross-regional treaties
-
Prevent arcane destabilization events
-
Suppress extraplanar breaches
