Backstory
I've given a thought to my wizard. He is a deep gnome evocationist by the name of Grimgar Blueeyes however in public he calls himself Bulger cuttlefish. Part of this is due to the secretive nature of his people and other to the powers associated with knowing a person's true name. His family originated deep in the scar or similar location. His grandfather and grandmother left while taking my young father and Uncle with them. Two other families left the same time. My father grew up and married one of the daughters of the other families and myself and sister were created. They run a local pawn shop/ jewelry store. My grandfather and father are both secretly Mages of the Divine classification while my grandmother was a cleric. My sister which is now married is a talented gemstone cutter. My brother-in-law and father are good at crafting metal jewelry and appraising materials. I am good at appraising but average in stone cutting and seek my fortune elsewhere. My grandparents supplied me with a fair amount of History of their youth but I think some mystery still go on answered. For example I suspect their reason for leaving the Deep SCAR or underdark was never fully explained to me. As I stated above my sister is a gifted stonecutter but what the public doesn't know is that my grandfather and father, being divination Wizards, wait till they make exceptionally High Rolls. I know that's meta Gaming but that's the only way to explain it. When you consider her naturally gifted skills and the fact that they can substitute a 19 or 20 for her role and then gets a guidance bonus from my grandmother, it is not uncommon for her to have a role in the high 20s or low 30s. Of course this is only used when they are crafting exceptionally made jewelry or gems. I don't personally know but suspect that my grandfather and or father deal with fencing extremely recognizable items. A large recognizable diamond is hard to sell but when cut exceptionally well into smaller diamonds can easily be sold off. I was mainly there to appraise items and to Aid and the designing of custom items. For special clients they would describe what item they want made and I would use my minor illusion skills to create a realistic three-dimensional image of it. Once it meant their specifications, I would be transferred to my father or brother-in-law to make the metalworking and my sister to craft the gems or jewels. With the natural skills of my family and aiding of magic it was not unheard of us to craft Masterwork items. Of course that is another secret that only those that could pay for it ever really found out. Unbeknownst to me it's made my family quite wealthy, of which they hide evidence of, and useful for the wealthy and thieves alike.
